The Environmental Service of the Department of Environment and Emergencies of the Island Council of Gran Canaria has provided information about the development of the 1st Sustainable Tourism Forum of the Canary Islands (Verode), which will take place the next week in Gran Canaria.
Our colleagues from Casa Emblemática Garaday will be taking part in this Forum, representing the Tourism Product Club of Lanzarote’s Biosphere Reserve, and they will share their experiences and diverse resources of Lanzarote’s BR Office.
The Department of Environment and Emergencies of the Island Council of Gran Canaria, co-organising body of Verode – 1st Sustainable Tourism Forum of the Canary Islands, wishes to encourage a debate about the tourist model in our islands, with the goal of minimising any negative impact and reaching greater benefits for the islands, not just from an environmental point of view, but also from a sociocultural and economic one.
This is the reason why, as 2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, we wish to contribute to gather as many key players and groups of interest as needed to cooperate together and turn tourism into a positive catalyst for change. This would be a perfect working environment to celebrate Verode, the 1st Sustainable Tourism Forum of the Canary Islands, which will take place on the 10th and 11th of October in the Agüimes Theatre Auditorium. The Forum’s goal is to become a reference for the sector and a recurring act, so that a project of actions and result measurements can be established for a medium- and long-term.
Verode aims to be a place for reflection, serving as a way to evaluate where we come from and where we are are. A turning point that discusses the pros and cons of the tourist model in all of the Canary Islands. A place in which to interact and share knowledge that could set the base to implement corrective measures, allowing a greater, long-term sustainability for the sector.
We would love for you to participate in Verode and, therefore, we invite you all to attend to this forum:
