Today, Tuesday 27th of September 2016, is World Tourism Day. This year’s motto is “Tourism for Everyone.”
World Tourism Day aims to make the international community more aware of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, politic and economical value.
As stated on the World Tourism Organisation website, the goal for 2016 is to raise awareness about the work administrations and tourism businesses must do to develop a more accessible tourism experience for everyone. We are talking of the creation of environments that listen to the needs of everyone, whether they are travelling or staying home. It might be due to a disability, even if it is temporary, or maybe we have small children to take care of, or we might be old; either way, at some moment in our life we can all benefit from accessible tourism.
That is why we want to demand the right of every single citizen in the world to experience our planet’s diversity and beauty first-hand. For this year’s World Tourism Day, we ask for your help to spread the word of the importance of universal accessibility and the huge benefits it can offer to society as a whole.
Lanzarote’s Biosphere Reserve Office wants to emphasise the importance of accessible tourism and demand a series of requisites to the authorised businesses that are members of Lanzarote’s Biosphere Reserve Tourism Product Club. Here in Lanzarote we count with some good examples of businesses and collectives that have years of experience working so that their clients and collaborators can enjoy our island with greater accessibility and with good health and safety conditions. Thanks, everyone!
